The Fees are getting out of hand for the average quarter horse show. $8 dollars per judge is rediculous and starting to become not worth the showing. Soon AQHA is not going to have people showing because of the fees, The small fry and novice are there to learn to get better not to spend all of there money on one show! Not only is it getting too expensive for people it is starting to become a rich person sport, what happened ...more »
Most will agree that we need to find a way to expand the number of people and horses showing at AQHA shows in order to improve the equine market. Currently less than 2% of AQHA members are participating in the current show system because only the very best horses and riders can achieve success and feel competitive. The following suggestion would bridge the gap for riders and horses. There is a place for every horse ...more »
Have vets when doing urine/blood testing also do a,tail test. I have seen WAY to many horses with crooked or unusable tails due to nerve blocking too many times or completely cutting the nerves. It is supposed to be illegal, but almost every trainer I know does it and says you have to to be,competitive. Some of the trainers are AQHA judges as well!
AQHA has spent so much time and money trying to figure out how to encourage more people to show. Cheaper entries and more all inclusive fees would allow more people to go to more shows. 15$ per judge per class is ridiculous and unaffordable. AQHA should be helping our show managers promote the industry by helping meet some of the costs associated with building rentals and judges and at the very least have some type ...more »
Create an app that allows you to enter a class (like Rookie Trail), a zip code and a date range. Display horse shows offering that class within a 200 mile radius. A bonus would be to show the numbers if the show offered that class last year.
I would LOVE to see a program that allows Quarter Horses to earn credits from open shows like that offered by APHA called the Paint Alternative Competition Program. Not everyone can afford to attend Quarter Horse shows and quite frankly, not every Quarter Horse can win at them. This type of program rewards those horses and riders/exhibitors to be recognized for their hard work, dedication and achievement on a different ...more »
Every show that AQHA hosts (world shows, novice championships, ranching and CMSA) should have a permanent link to each event in the showing category on AQHA's website. The link for each show should clearly list the qualifying period, method or points to qualify, if state qualifying is handled by affiliates, entry deadlines, and special rules such as caps for novice championships. AND any changes, modifications or extensions ...more »
I think you guys should create an app where we can log on and stay logged on to member services. We would be able to check show leaders, points and other member service things. I am always having to to to aqha.com and type in my log in stuff to check show leaders. I think this would be a quicker way to
check these things.
You know how you can do a hotel search and select the "map" option, so you can look at the hotels geographically? Could AQHA take the same idea and revamp that "Find A Trainer" link? It would be awesome to pull up a map and see dots where all the trainers are located, hover over the dot and the trainer's contact information pops up. This need became apparent when I moved to another part of the country. I know the surrounding ...more »
Please bring back the Novice Amateur Pleasure driving! This class helps those of us (and our horses) that are newer to pleasure driving have a chance!
I think the association has micro managed our showing divisions to the point of total confusion, the novice, rookie and leveling are crazy, this is suppose to be fun and stress free. Go back to how it used to be very simple (novice, open, amateur, youth, select, etc) just increase the novice point totals to say 50. By adding all these levels and divisions all that AQHA has done is make the shows longer with smaller classes ...more »
I recently browsed thru the Year End Awards lists, only to find 4 times the number of award lists (Nov, Lev 1,2,3 in each category of rider) and yet no overall year end placings in the rider category. So I'm guessing we have just quadrupled the Honor Roll. I feel this waters down the "honor" of being on the Honor Roll. At the same time, because there is no overall award for each, its nearly impossible to see how everyone ...more »
