I recently attended the Adequan Select World Show and was fortunate to win a Reserve Champion Title and I am very grateful for my award. I always loved the Rosette Ribbons, and was a bit disappointed to not receive one this year. The medallion in a box is a nice, easy to display award in a trophy case, and I can understand that for trainers and owners of multiple horses, these would be much more practical, however, for... more »
I'd like to see AQHA add a list of my currently owned and previously owned horses on the my AQHA website. This could simplify many forms as well as you could select a horse from the list and print a pdf that generates with it's information to submit, for things such as five panel testing, color testing, DNA parentage verification... creating new foal registration, the list goes on. This could also allow each person to... more »
AQHA should provide a Personnel Directory, along with contact email addresses.
I can't tell you how many horses I've come across, either helped to sell or rode for someone, who didn't have clean transfers because the transfer form is seperate from the papers. Novice owners don't realize you need papers AND transfer form. 2 pages are easy to lose - especially if you don't realize what the second form is. Years ago, the transfer was the back of the horse's papers - so if you had the papers, you... more »
AQHA desperately needs a "Name Change Form" for when a new name is desired for a previously registered horse. AQHA registration department fields many phone calls and tells "the member to write down on a piece of paper and send in $55". This form can be listed in AQHA: Resources section within "Printable Forms" near the AQHA Transfer Report.
In looking at the current entries for the 2014 World Show I am noticing Amateur Entries showing Professional Horseman's horses. Horses that they haven't qualified for their respective classes. How is that fair for the Membership as a whole?? AQHA is worried about the decline of entries, but have we become a organization of who you know to get entered where you want? I am a current Show Manager and had someone come... more »
AQHA should NOT announce horses and exhibitors names at all World show competitions. This was none more apparent than at this years 2014 youth world show, where many trainers children and overly publicized horses/exhibitors were making the finals with mediocre patterns and go's. It just breeds the idea that "its all about who you know" when you walk into that arena. Many regular folks do not have those connections and... more »
Several friends have noted as they attempted to vote on this Submit Your Idea page, that if multiple members of a household share an email address they can not individually vote on ideas even if they have separate AQHA membership numbers. I suggest that the login to this page be changed so that separate passwords can be used with the same email address. In fact, it would make sense if the login amounted to email address... more »
I have been trying to find a stallion to breed a mare to for some months now and it is next to impossible. Breeders do not advertise like they used to and unless you are already aware of the stud, it is not possible to find what you are looking for. The AQHA horse search database would be invaluable if it were possible to search in a logical manner, not only in stallion searches, but for potential sale horses, etc. I... more »
You know how you can do a hotel search and select the "map" option, so you can look at the hotels geographically? Could AQHA take the same idea and revamp that "Find A Trainer" link? It would be awesome to pull up a map and see dots where all the trainers are located, hover over the dot and the trainer's contact information pops up. This need became apparent when I moved to another part of the country. I know the surrounding... more »
You need to have more incentives for regular AQHA classes, give people incentives to want to novice out. People have more incentives to stay novice then show regular aqha classes. Especially now you have to pay for your incentive fund points.
With people from around the USA attending the AQHA World Show not only to compete but many to watch I would attend the show management training class. Few years ago Sandy recommended that we start holding a small show, I would live to, but with all my horses I don't travel. But many do come to OKC in November.
I think that AQHA needs a youth social media coordinator. This person would try to encourage more youth the join AQHA and become more involved. They would help manage the AQHA youth Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter pages. As a participant in the 2013 AQHA Young Horse Development Program, I was able to reach out to other youth about the program by creating a Facebook page, "Megan D'Andrea and Willow 2013 AQHA... more »
How would you feel about setting aside a portion of revenue to promote the breed? This would be similar to the Beef Check Off. Start by hiring a marketing person/staff within AQHA HQ who would be responsible for promoting and encouraging more people to own, use and show AQHA horses. Possibly even having one person in each state or region responsible for promoting the breed on the ground. These people would look for... more »
Lets bring back this old tradition! it is common practice for working cows out west, but not very common on the east coast. We use this practice with both horses and cattle here at Sugaree Ranch. Its all the fun of roping, with more horsemanship and finesse involved than the rodeo style. Its a classic tradition passed on by vaqueros and buckaroos for centuries. Its also practiced by many famous clinicians: Buck Brannaman,... more »
