Since AQHA makes 5 panel genetic testing a requierment they should openly list all horses wich are not n/n on all 5 or just the opposite Only list all n/n on all 5 panel test so we can all make better breeding desiscions.
AQHA could save alot of money by eliminating multiple Journals being sent to the same address. I have a number of memerbship IDs used for different partnerships, etc. I try to help keep your costs down by stopping the extra Journals that are mailed to my house. But it always starts back up and soon I'm getting 2-3 every month. I try to give them away to non-members, but usually they go in the trash. Here is how ...more »
would like a brochure published with the Novice/Rookie information in it that could be handed out at non-AQHA shows to exhibitors that show an American Quarter Horse whether they own it or not. would answer a lot of questions and misconceptions a lot of people have about showing AQHA. I did a mock up of one and sent in for permission to print some copies but have not received any feedback on it - all information was ...more »
Please consider adding the winners of the novice championships just like the world show (yes I know there is 3 ) but these riders work just as hard.i think most would love to see themselves in the journal in a win photo .
The Foundation Quarter Horse Registry (FQHR) requires it's horses to be registered with AQHA to be eligible for shows and membership. I would like to see some coverage of their shows and results in the publications and websites. Considering these horses are the definition of the traditional American Quarter Horse and the classes are representative of what Working Ranch Horses are used for. Please give it some consideration ...more »
To log the hours of the Horseback riding program is some kind of laborious. If you want to log hours online on the smartphone it's so impractical that I resigned to do it. I do it online on the PC. It's a little bit easier now with the new AQHA page and the login but it would be even more easier with a special app for the smart phone.
We have been in business for over 50 years. We specialize in the all around horse. However, most of our horses sell to people who want a horse that they can ride for pleasure, and maybe take it to the local shows on week ends. THe journal is specializing in ranch horses...rope horses...cutting horses, etc. How many people can ride a rope horse? How many people can ride a cutting horse? In fact, a true ranch horse ...more »
My suggestion is to run a story on past Youth exhibitors that are now successful professional adults about what lessons they learned showing horses that they now use in their professional careers. Also how showing horses made them who they are now. I would focus on people who have been out of youth at least 10 to 15 years. I think this story would be of interest to several people including parents of youth kids now. ...more »
I would like to see more articles about the art and science of nutrition in our AQHA journal. Like the articles on reproduction and emergency medicine, or general veterinary procedures. Just put articles about nutrition authored by veterinarians and equine nutritionists in the magazine. You could add articles in extra space and you wouldn't have to cut any other articles out to print articles about nutrition. I love ...more »
I coach youth competitive judging and have had successful teams at local and national contests. I find that there is inconsistency between what I teach my students in order to be successful in competitive judging and what we hear from real world judges. For instance, a seminar was provided the day before the Congress judging contest last year and the speaker even asked, "Do you want me to do this from the judging contest ...more »
I think that AQHA needs a youth social media coordinator. This person would try to encourage more youth the join AQHA and become more involved. They would help manage the AQHA youth Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter pages. As a participant in the 2013 AQHA Young Horse Development Program, I was able to reach out to other youth about the program by creating a Facebook page, "Megan D'Andrea and Willow 2013 AQHA ...more »
With all the new products and feeds on the market these days horses are living longer healthier lives. AQHA should honor these horses and their owners. I would suggest a contest or do an article on the oldest registered still living horse and find out the secrete to their longevity. Possibly offer as a prize a years supply of the supplements and feed that led to the graceful aging of that particular horse.
