I support the efforts of Carol Harris and others to restore a natural gait to the Western Pleasure horse. This issue is hurting the entire industry. I propose that judging credentials be lifted if judges fail to follow standards after one warning. Horses that don't offer a natural gait at a lope should be disqualified, and if no horse in a class meets standards, there should be no winner. AQHA simply MUST be more proactive... more »
APHA has a nice feature. When you log into your member services it can show you all the horses that are currently registered in your name. I think this is a great feature and allows me to know when I sale a horse if the new owner has put the horse in their name or if the horse is still in my name. After some time if I notice the horse is still in my name I will call them and ask them why they have not transferred the... more »
This is the response I received by email from AQHA. "Once results are received in our office from UC Davis, we can email a copy of the results to the owner for quicker access. Our contract with UC Davis is strictly with AQHA and they do not have access to our AQHA member information. UC Davis is a genetic laboratory whose sole purpose is to run the data. They do not record the results and should not be responsible for... more »
I feel lifetime membership ship for seniors ( age 55 and over) should be given a huge reduced price, considering the number of years they have left to be a members.
Anyone proven guilty in court of horse abuse to be denied membership.
Abuse has no place in any industry. Past offenders or new offenders. (Only ones found guilty in a court of law not anyone who has only been club/association suspended for poor conduct) to be denied memebership
AQHA should "sponsor" or ask for added value from the PRCA to include AQHA branded television graphics on every horse in the Wrangler NFR to include the horse's registered name, barn name, color, gender, age dam and sire on screen as the horse prepares to perform in the arena. This would increase AQHA TV visibility and importance of the horse in the sport of rodeo.
At this time there is only an AQHA Amateur High Point All Around and the points are only counted/earned in the Amateur classes. Several of us Amateurs haul as level 1 amateurs or select amateurs and I believe deserve the opportunity to be recognized as High Point All Around in our divisions.
penalizing hits on ground logs??? on our ranch there is So much downfall, alot of it hidden by grass, our horses would be worn out just trying to NEVER hit a log, branch etc. I dont think poles on the ground in ranch trail is an "obstacle" to be scored on.Ranch trail should be REAL obstacles a ranch horse faces on the ranch. putting on slickers, swinging a rope over horses head, ground tying etc
why cant there be a ranch horse pleasure class with no pattern-just a rail class? would cut out the reiner advantage
There are so few Halter horses showing that to win points with a stallion almost impossible. Most young mare and young gelding classes are not point classes. Resolve: After the Grand and Reserve classes are held, hold a class for all halter class winners and second place horses of all sexes regardless of the number of horses in the class. The judges pick the Supreme and Reserve Supreme halter horse from all sexes... more »
I am interested in taking students to shows that have Ranch Pleasure classes, but trying to find which shows have what classes requires looking at specific show webs sites or emailing show secretaries.
I am fairly sure that with technology today you can make it easier for people to find classes they want to attend.
Make life easy it is expensive to show so finding where we spend our money should be easy!
I attended the National Convention in March for my first time as President of Idaho State. It was a very informative event but I went away a little disappointed. There was nothing that represented the State Affiliates. I did attend a number of committee meetings and meant a lot of very nice people. I have heard complaints regarding the decreasing in State Memberships. This format would be the best place to invite the... more »
Would it be possible to reduce the number of required hours in the horseback riding program for seniors? If I ride my new horse 5 times a week, for an hour at a time, I will accumulate 260 hours a year. That means it will take me almost 20 years to accumulate 5,000 hours. While I would like to think I will still be riding at 80 years old, and my mare will still be going at 25 years old, that might not be completely realistic.... more »
In response to the request to hold separate shows for the disabled, a simple solution would be to have more shows with the EWD classses. They are hard to find and frequently long distances as most of the shows that have these classes are only the larger ones. It is often difficult for someone with a disability to travel for these longer distances, and it is also more expensive for someone who probably has a limited... more »
Western pleasure horses are supposed to look natural at all gaits, they still do not, need to eliminate the "head bob" at the lope...horsr looks lame. HUS horses...I have never seen a real hunter horse with a low or even level headset...thelse horses are nothing more then extra tall, extended western pleasure horses.....why? HUS is not pleasure.
