Reduced fees for Lifetime memberships for senior citizens

It would be nice if there were a program to allow senior citizen members to upgrade to a lifetime membership at a greatly reduced rate.

Thanks for considering.

Allow online membership renewals to add Amateur,& Novice

A LOT of exhibitors renew online (or when telephone solicitors were used) and when they come to enter their card is only an open membership and they must purchase the upgrade to amateur, amateur novice or youth novice (if qualified). This should be corrected so the applicant gets the appropriate membership.

REALLY limiting terms for officers and directors

The AQHA needs to REALLY limit terms for officers and directors. Currently, when their terms are up, they just get themselves voted in again. There are some directors who have been officers and directors for 14 years, including the current president.

AQHA Rules

No individual on the Executive Committee or the most powerful committee, the Stud Book & Registration Committee, should be allowed to vote on rule changes that directly affect them financially. Also, there should not be several individuals involved in a portion of the industry (i.e.) racing on the Stud Book & Registration Committee.

Racing division of AQHS

The Racing Division should be a separate association and have their own officers, directors and members. They currently have their own publication; why not separate these two entities and quit having the halter, pleasure and performance division of the AQHA pay for grants given to the state racing associations rather than the state performance associations. Also the racing industry seems to have the most problems, including ...more »

Combine forces with APHA

AQHA and APHA share common lineages, in many cases, separated only by antiquated definitions of color. Both breed organizations are based on stock horse ideals. Both are showing declines in membership, registration, and show participation. In some parts of the country, both groups have difficulty filling classes. Both have the expense of maintaining complex databases. Establishing a platform in which both breeds could ...more »

Correctly annotate color on reigistration papers.

AQHA's inability, and sometimes refusal, to correctly register a horse's color is antiquated. Given the advancements in genetics testing, it is not difficult to correctly register color, even given the constraints of the old computer system and failed upgrade. A sorrel horse with the champagne dilution should not be registered as a palomino. Grey is not a base color, it is a type of white pattern and can easily be noted ...more »

Registering cloned horses

I would like there to be some discussion on registering cloned horses. I personally see no problems. There are some horses who are just to valuable to their selected fields to ignore.

Don't increase select age to 62

I would urge the task force that is examining the idea of raising the Select age to 62 not to make this mistake. The idea that this will increase the size of the amateur classes is untrue. We could already ride the amateur division if we wanted to. Clearly most of us don't. If you raise the age limit, many of us will choose not to show anymore. The loss of amateurs was due to the disastrous idea of the novice roll ...more »

Utilize Email for contact with Members

A lot of members funds are wasted sending out useless letters when an email would be quicker & more cost effective, as well as allowing a response to be directed back to the person handling the paperwork/issue.

The AQHA need to get n the 21st century & use the tools available.

Lower Fees

The Fees are getting out of hand for the average quarter horse show. $8 dollars per judge is rediculous and starting to become not worth the showing. Soon AQHA is not going to have people showing because of the fees, The small fry and novice are there to learn to get better not to spend all of there money on one show! Not only is it getting too expensive for people it is starting to become a rich person sport, what happened ...more »

Exhibitor Name/Horse Name Announcement at World Show

AQHA should NOT announce horses and exhibitors names at all World show competitions. This was none more apparent than at this years 2014 youth world show, where many trainers children and overly publicized horses/exhibitors were making the finals with mediocre patterns and go's. It just breeds the idea that "its all about who you know" when you walk into that arena. Many regular folks do not have those connections and ...more »
