I think there should be some changes to the appendix advancement rules. I have a good stallion by Zips Chocolate Chip out of a Skys Blue Boy daughter. The mare was appendix and died before I could get her ROM and advance her. The stallion was injured as a yearling and can't show but is producing very well. He'll never have the opportunity for advancement and I am missing out on being able to breed to good appendix ...more »
I know I am not the only person out there who has bought a horse that was registered once-upon-a-time with AQHA, but due to irresponsible owners and multiple transfers, the papers and information has been lost. I think that along with the proof-of-ownership in the form of registration papers, that AQHA registered horses should be marked physically with a brand, or lip/ear tattoo with their corresponding registration ...more »
I propose that AQHA offer a package deal for registering foals that includes the registration itself, parentage verification, 5-panel genetic disease testing, and complete color testing. If the cost of this could be controlled (maybe $125-150 or so) so that smaller breeders without much money and larger operations with many mares saw it reasonable, this would go a long way towards helping to educate and control genetic ...more »
I can't tell you how many horses I've come across, either helped to sell or rode for someone, who didn't have clean transfers because the transfer form is seperate from the papers. Novice owners don't realize you need papers AND transfer form. 2 pages are easy to lose - especially if you don't realize what the second form is. Years ago, the transfer was the back of the horse's papers - so if you had the papers, you ...more »
Everyone knows a good Quarter Horse that isn't registered due to someone neglecting to register the parents. Why not have a process to register these horses.
I had a chance to enroll my horse in the Incentive fund program. I did not know she was eligible as a foal to be enrolled in this program. AQHA sadly informed me that I was not able to pay the enrollment for her as an older horse. I believe if the stallion was nominated the year the foal was conceived the foal should be eligible for its lifetime to be enrolled.
I think that AQHA needs a youth social media coordinator. This person would try to encourage more youth the join AQHA and become more involved. They would help manage the AQHA youth Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter pages. As a participant in the 2013 AQHA Young Horse Development Program, I was able to reach out to other youth about the program by creating a Facebook page, "Megan D'Andrea and Willow 2013 AQHA ...more »
Many times a horse's color changes as they age, but are registered as foals. I know you can pay a fee to have it changed, but this doesn't seem right. This information can be very helpful when breeding or identifying horses for brand inspections, etc. Perhaps there can be two colors: foal, aged. If someone wants to report this change, they are doing a service to the community and possibly protecting their horse.
I strongly feel that the stallions to be eligible for breeding and foals to be registered should under go an evaluation to be accepted as breeding stock. The American Quarter Horse is in dyer need to under go change. A chance to perfect it's stock and preserve the quarter horse. An effort to stop poor breeding choices and discourage and educate the members is being made. This needs to continue. Horses need to be registered, ...more »
I'd like to see AQHA have seen incentive to register older AQHA horses for a limited time at the rate of registering a foal, ideally more than once a year they should offer this promotion
I believe it would be a great idea to be able to look up a horse by the year foaled or the color. I have a horse right now that is registered, but his papers were lost and I do not know his registered name. If I could look him up by just the year he was foaled or his color -- I could find out exactly who he is. This would be a tremendous help.
In today's world where you can verify ownership online it is no longer necessary to require the original registration certificate to be presented in the horse show office. Remove this antiquated rule, please.
