With people from around the USA attending the AQHA World Show not only to compete but many to watch I would attend the show management training class. Few years ago Sandy recommended that we start holding a small show, I would live to, but with all my horses I don't travel. But many do come to OKC in November.
You know how you can do a hotel search and select the "map" option, so you can look at the hotels geographically? Could AQHA take the same idea and revamp that "Find A Trainer" link? It would be awesome to pull up a map and see dots where all the trainers are located, hover over the dot and the trainer's contact information pops up. This need became apparent when I moved to another part of the country. I know the surrounding ...more »
Several friends have noted as they attempted to vote on this Submit Your Idea page, that if multiple members of a household share an email address they can not individually vote on ideas even if they have separate AQHA membership numbers. I suggest that the login to this page be changed so that separate passwords can be used with the same email address. In fact, it would make sense if the login amounted to email address ...more »
I have been trying to find a stallion to breed a mare to for some months now and it is next to impossible. Breeders do not advertise like they used to and unless you are already aware of the stud, it is not possible to find what you are looking for. The AQHA horse search database would be invaluable if it were possible to search in a logical manner, not only in stallion searches, but for potential sale horses, etc. I ...more »
AQHA should provide a Personnel Directory, along with contact email addresses.
I can't tell you how many horses I've come across, either helped to sell or rode for someone, who didn't have clean transfers because the transfer form is seperate from the papers. Novice owners don't realize you need papers AND transfer form. 2 pages are easy to lose - especially if you don't realize what the second form is. Years ago, the transfer was the back of the horse's papers - so if you had the papers, you ...more »
I think that AQHA needs a youth social media coordinator. This person would try to encourage more youth the join AQHA and become more involved. They would help manage the AQHA youth Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter pages. As a participant in the 2013 AQHA Young Horse Development Program, I was able to reach out to other youth about the program by creating a Facebook page, "Megan D'Andrea and Willow 2013 AQHA ...more »
I strongly feel that the stallions to be eligible for breeding and foals to be registered should under go an evaluation to be accepted as breeding stock. The American Quarter Horse is in dyer need to under go change. A chance to perfect it's stock and preserve the quarter horse. An effort to stop poor breeding choices and discourage and educate the members is being made. This needs to continue. Horses need to be registered, ...more »
You need to have more incentives for regular AQHA classes, give people incentives to want to novice out. People have more incentives to stay novice then show regular aqha classes. Especially now you have to pay for your incentive fund points.
How would you feel about setting aside a portion of revenue to promote the breed? This would be similar to the Beef Check Off. Start by hiring a marketing person/staff within AQHA HQ who would be responsible for promoting and encouraging more people to own, use and show AQHA horses. Possibly even having one person in each state or region responsible for promoting the breed on the ground. These people would look for ...more »
In looking at the current entries for the 2014 World Show I am noticing Amateur Entries showing Professional Horseman's horses. Horses that they haven't qualified for their respective classes. How is that fair for the Membership as a whole?? AQHA is worried about the decline of entries, but have we become a organization of who you know to get entered where you want? I am a current Show Manager and had someone come ...more »
I own a few broodmares and I try to keep track of the foals I have raised. In doing so, I typically choose names for my foals that are easy for me to identify. However, AQHA makes it too easy for people to change a horse's name. I accidentally missed a homebred going through a sale because his name had been changed to something that I would never have chosen. I think the breeder should have the right to say whether or ...more »
