In October of 2014, my best friend, Tuffernhel Joc, aka Joc, was struck with Equine Recurrent Uveitis, or ERU for short. This crippling disease occurs when the immune system attacks the eye, causeing severe pain, cataracts, shrinking of the eye, and eventually, blindness. The disease is progressive, and occurs at random intervals, ranging from one week after the previous attack to a year. Joc suffered though the pain, ...more »

Every division of horse racing has its end of the year awards. Yet still the asst starters recieve no accolades for there contribution to racing. In quarter horse racing this position is ever so critical to the success of the trainer, rider, breeder and owner.. The value of some of these races exceeds the millions. Lessons Learned from my Youth Career

My suggestion is to run a story on past Youth exhibitors that are now successful professional adults about what lessons they learned showing horses that they now use in their professional careers. Also how showing horses made them who they are now. I would focus on people who have been out of youth at least 10 to 15 years. I think this story would be of interest to several people including parents of youth kids now. ...more »

THe quarter horse Journal.

We have been in business for over 50 years. We specialize in the all around horse. However, most of our horses sell to people who want a horse that they can ride for pleasure, and maybe take it to the local shows on week ends. Competitive Judging and Actual Judging

I coach youth competitive judging and have had successful teams at local and national contests. I find that there is inconsistency between what I teach my students in order to be successful in competitive judging and what we hear from real world judges. For instance, a seminar was provided the day before the Congress judging contest last year and the speaker even asked, "Do you want me to do this from the judging contest ...more »

Health issues in AQHA horses

I would like AQHA to address some of the traditional health issues in AQHA horses. We had a AQHA mare with navicular disease in her front feet. She was much too young, at the age of 20, to be retired from riding. Our veterinarian said it may have been from the fact she had such small feet for a very big bodied horse. I would like AQHA to identify the bloodlines with navicular disease and request these mares and stallions ...more »

More coverage of Foundation Quarter Horse Shows/Information

The Foundation Quarter Horse Registry (FQHR) requires it's horses to be registered with AQHA to be eligible for shows and membership. I would like to see some coverage of their shows and results in the publications and websites. Considering these horses are the definition of the traditional American Quarter Horse and the classes are representative of what Working Ranch Horses are used for. Please give it some consideration ...more »
