New Rookie Over Fences Classes

I am really excited to see AQHA has finally provided a stepping stone to introduce new horses and riders to the over fences classes. With the new proposed Rookie division for 2018 with fences at 2' set on 11 ft canter stride distances more new riders and horses will be able to get started safely and have fun. Under the current system, fences heights are a minimum of 2'6" and are set on 12 ft distances. These heights ...more »

Removing grade as a transfer option

When sending a previous owner transfer papers to sign, they can say that they sold the horse grade so that they do not have to transfer the horse. The papers should go with the horse. That is not fair to the horse or the new owner that they cannot have paper that are rightfully theirs. This is all so that breeders don't have their name tied to a horse. If the option was taken away then breeders would be more selective ...more »

Horseback Riding program mobile app

Make a mobile app for the horseback riding progeam rather than logging into the AQHA site. You could then add an option to store or add hours to your log when you get back into wifi or 4g range. Alot of trail riders already use map programs linked to their phones/mobile devices on the trail, this would just add to their trail fun at tbe end of the ride.

AQHA approved dressage shows

The current AQHA Dressage program makes participation very difficult. My state does not currently offer any AQHA approved dressage shows. Each USDF/USEF licensed dressage show must apply for approval with AQHA with a $50 charge per show. Additionally, while not currently enforced, the show secretary must be a member of AQHA. Our state dressage shows are pretty large but I'm still usually the only one showing a quarter ...more »

Judge's Card

I'd love to pursue a judge's card, but after looking at the application I feel like there is no way I would have a shot. I don't have a show horse and I do not breed horses. I do coach youth horse judging though and have been doing so for about 10 years. I've had very successful teams at the local and National levels - including the high individual in the performance division, along with other team awards at The Congress ...more »

AQHA Alternative Competition Program

I would love it if we could have an alternative competition program, like APHA's PAC program. This allows horses to earn alternative competition points when they are shown in smaller shows and shows that are not AQHA breed shows. Schooling shows, playdays, state shows, barrel racing and gymkhana shows, parades, 4-H shows, team pennings, ropings, horse trials, and other activities that fall outside the category of AQHA ...more »

Classes for older halter horses aged 10 and up

I think there should be an age group for halter horses that are over 10 yrs old. It's difficult for the older horses to compete with the younger ones and this may help eliminate so many aged horses ending up with no show career in halter after they are getting older. The aged horses also are more settled and provide safer options for exhibitors that have trouble handling young ones. I suggest an age group change as follows.. ...more »

Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TIP) Partnership with AQHA

Has AQHA ever considered partnering with the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TIP) for their hunter classes and such? With as many TB mares that go on to produce quality Appendix foals out there, it would seem to me that AQHA would want to get on board with making the TB a featured breed right alongside the QH. It would help to offer more recognition of the TB mares that went on to do well in the TIP Program and then for ...more »

Change qualifying for Select World to a format like Level 1.

I would like to see a change in qualifying for select world which would allow more Select Amateur riders to consider the trip to Select World. Many riders qualify under the current system in only 1 class - it is just too far and expensive to travel to a show for just one class. I like the Level 1 system - if you qualify in one class, you have the option to enter any classes you want when you go to the show. I believe ...more »

Prohibit Cross Entering Between Select Amateur and Amateur

This is likely a Rule Proposal that needs written up but i'll post it here for feedback. It is noted that you are not able to show at the Select World Show and the Amateur/Open World Show. You have to choose one or the other if you qualify for both. Also, you are unable to show the Level 1 Select Amateur and the Level 1 Amateur Class at the Level 1 Championships With that being said I think it reasonable that there ...more »
