I am in favor of leveling and rookie classes to give less experienced competitors and those who don't have "world class" quality horses a place to show and be competitive. Here in the Southwest, we never see rookie classes offered except for the Level 1 Championships in Las Vegas. We see Level 1 Classes offered at most shows in the "core" rail and pattern classes. Show managers need to start offering the rookie classes ...more »
Can you please publish an article addressing the subject of filling classes at horse shows so that new members can gain better understanding?
With those class numbers increasing, it would be nice if AQHA would add those walk/trot Level 1 classes to the championship shows. Since entries have fallen and there are 3 locations making long shows days a non issue any more. This could encourage more participation at the Level 1 Championship shows and a stepping stone in towards the walk/trot/lope classes at those very shows, as well.
With all the new products and feeds on the market these days horses are living longer healthier lives. AQHA should honor these horses and their owners. I would suggest a contest or do an article on the oldest registered still living horse and find out the secrete to their longevity. Possibly offer as a prize a years supply of the supplements and feed that led to the graceful aging of that particular horse.
Wanting go see if there' any way to stop my Amateur entry from being turned in as Amateur Select. I do not enter the Select class & highlight on the entry form NO SELECT, but because of my birthdate, my class results are being submitted to AQHA as Select. I've been told there's nothing I could do to request a correction because results are signed & submitted. Missing year end opportunities because points are not being ...more »
When sending a previous owner transfer papers to sign, they can say that they sold the horse grade so that they do not have to transfer the horse. The papers should go with the horse. That is not fair to the horse or the new owner that they cannot have paper that are rightfully theirs. This is all so that breeders don't have their name tied to a horse. If the option was taken away then breeders would be more selective ...more »
Make a mobile app for the horseback riding progeam rather than logging into the AQHA site. You could then add an option to store or add hours to your log when you get back into wifi or 4g range. Alot of trail riders already use map programs linked to their phones/mobile devices on the trail, this would just add to their trail fun at tbe end of the ride.
Everytime a new member joins AQHA, they are sent an email welcoming them and offering them the AQHA state affiliate that is their connection to quick information about Quarter Horse activities in their state, meet Quarter Horse friends nearby and also to explain the AQHA - State Affiliate relationship.
Please consider adding the winners of the novice championships just like the world show (yes I know there is 3 ) but these riders work just as hard.i think most would love to see themselves in the journal in a win photo .
Wouldn't it be great if AQHA subsidized classes that are aimed at teaching people how to provide additional care in the way of massage therapy, first aid, improved mental well being, etc. to their equine athlete? I think all of our horses would thank us for having this additional knowledge and would help keep our quarter horses happy and sound. Currently, a massage therapy course is around $700.00. This service could ...more »
Suggestion -- It would be nice if The Journal provided the details on what it takes to earn the various lifetime awards, such as performance champion versus AQHA champion, etc. (example AQHA Open Champion - min of 15 halter points, # number of performance points in 2 categories or whatever it is, as I can't ever remember). I love seeing what different horses and riders have earned each month, but find that I have to ...more »
Distance riding is quite an accomplishment and should be recognized. Also, it adds to the many uses of the AQH.
